How to Supernatural-Size Your Life

Hands holding globe globe with dove to supernatural-size life

Have you ever thought about how to empower your life spiritually by supernatural-sizing it? It's easy than you think!

The creative marketing concept called “supersizing” has been around for decades. Supersized orders of burgers, fries, and drinks skyrocketed. Packages of potato chips, pretzels, and corn chips grew larger and larger. And what would an afternoon at the movies with the kids be without the supersized buttered popcorn.

While supersizing is most often associated with food portions, the idea of supersizing something can refer to any time we enlarge something to an unusual and exceptional degree. In a world in which some people are satisfied with regular-sized slices of life, and others choose to live large, how can you and I supersize our lives in a meaningful and lasting way?

Supernatural-Size Your Relationship with God

We can start by supernatural-sizing our relationship with God. It’s as elementary as being aware of God’s presence every second of every day. It’s as glorious as moving beyond prayer, beyond scripture, and beyond worship, to acknowledging and embracing the Divine presence in our lives, and expecting the miraculous to occur inside and outside the mundane.

Being aware of God’s presence is elementary but far from simple to fully embrace. God is the great “I Am.” You can’t get any more basic than that reality. Appreciating that reality throughout our day, even on the most restful and contemplative days, is difficult, given the duties and distractions of daily life.

The key to acknowledging and embracing God’s presence is to invite his involvement in everything we do, from the mundane to the magnificent, and to thank him, giving him all honor and glory.

How to Begin Supernatural-Sizing

Time spent in prayer, meditating on God’s Word, offering praise and thanksgiving, are important parts of the spiritual life. But these endeavors only form the gateway through which our lives open to an appreciation of the realm in which God works. God is at work in ways we’ll never comprehend, and in heavenly realms in ways we will never see, until we join him for eternity.

We get glimpses of this realm and manifestations of God’s glory through prayer, his Word, in worship, and in the blessings given and received in service, but these are reflections as in a mirror. When we see God face to face in the person of Jesus, we will fully know him as he knows us (1 Corinthians 13:12).

Be Open to God's Anointing

As we deepen our relationship with God, the God of unfathomable glory, we open ourselves to his anointing to accomplish his purposes through the Holy Spirit. When we supernatural-size our lives, we lay our lives at God’s throne, expecting he will use us in supernatural ways.

Listen to God's Words

One thing I ask from the Lord, this only do I seek: that I may dwell in the house of the Lord all the days of my life, to gaze on the beauty of the Lord and to seek him in his temple.

(Psalm 27:4)

Very truly I tell you, whoever believes in me will do the works I have been doing, and they will do even greater things than these, because I am going to the Father. Now the Lord is the Spirit, and where the Spirit of the Lord is, there is freedom. (John 14:12)

And we all, who with unveiled faces contemplate the Lord’s glory, are being transformed into his image with ever-increasing glory, which comes from the Lord, who is the Spirit. (2 Corinthians 3:17-18)

Think About It

  • How often do you think about the glory and presence of God? Describe how it comes about. Through prayer? Thanksgiving? Praise and worship? Scripture? Others? Nature?

  • Describe what it would mean for you to lay your life at God’s throne, expecting he will use you in supernatural ways.

  • Have you ever felt God had anointed you, set you aside for a supernatural purpose, even though at the time it appeared to be a very mundane experience? Describe what happened.
