How Big Is Your God?

How big is your God? Do you keep Him in a little box tucked away in a corner on a shelf, only to be opened when needed? Is He a short meek fellow always sitting out in the hall waiting to be let in the rest of your house? Is He a small barely visible figure on a distant mountain top you can only see with binoculars? Or, is He for you, as the song says, an AWESOME God.

How Do You Size Up God?

How you size up God has a lot to do with the way you relate to Him. Whether you see God as small enough to be tucked into a box, meek enough to be kept out of all of your life’s rooms, or barely visible on a distant mountain top, you can still relate to Him as a friend, and that is important. But your God is more than a boxed friend, a meek friend, a distant friend. He is your God, an AWESOME God, an AWESOME friend.

Bright picture of bursting clouds showing how big God is.

How big is your God? You don’t need a degree in Theology to figure that out. He is big enough to have created the world. He is big enough to care for it and all in it, including you and me. He is also big enough to be humble, to die on the cross for us.

A God of supernatural surplus and bountiful blessings.

How we view our God also affects how we pray to Him. We miniaturize God by coming before Him with weak and meek prayers. True, we are all sinful human beings and should come before Him on our knees. But our God appreciates it when we come before Him with big faith and big expectations. He is a God of abundance. He is a God of supernatural surplus and bountiful blessings.

Have Big Vision and Expectations

Whether we come before God regarding our health, our wealth, our families, or our careers, we need to see what He can will for us with big vision and big expectations. If we pray in His will, He will deliver according to His riches. When we ask for a little, God will honor our request.

Think About It

  • Create an “elevator speech” for God as you see Him. Don’t be afraid to boast about your God.

  • Describe the prayer you might use when asking for something big or when facing an insurmountable challenge in your life.

  • Do you spend time with God, simply appreciating who He is and not what He can do for you? Describe how that makes you feel.
