Who Should Be Our Ultimate Source of Comfort and Protection?

Studies have shown that to which we "attach" ourselves in terms of seeking comfort and protection when we are young, will have a major influence in our lives as we grow older. This is the foundational principle of Attachment Theory, a useful psychological and evolutionary theory about how human relationships are formed and maintained, and how they affect normal social and emotional development and relationships over a life time.

Without getting into the "weeds" about Attachment Theory and the existence of numerous writings about the positive psychological implications of reliance on God, I'd like to suggest God's Word expresses a simple attachment theory.

“Keep your lives free from the love of money and be content with what you have, because God has said, ‘Never will I leave you; never will I forsake you.’ So, we say with confidence, ‘The Lord is my helper; I will not be afraid. What can mere mortals do to me?’” (Hebrews 13:5-6)
